Mold & Mildew Remover
CHEMICALS CONTAINED:
May contain phenol, kerosene, pentachlorophenol, and formaldehyde that can be absorbed through the skin or inhaled.

These products are often packaged in spray bottles and spraying the product increases the chances of getting it on skin, in eyes, and inhaling it.
HEALTH CONCERNS:
Phenol, pentachlorophenol and kerosene may cause harm if absorbed through the skin or inhaled, and may be fatal if swallowed. Phenol is a suspected human carcinogen, and may also mimic estrogen and disrupt hormones in the body. Exposure to phenols can cause skin damage, burns, vomiting, paralysis, convulsions, coma and death.

Pentachlorophenol is a carcinogen that can also cause central nervous system depression, nausea and liver damage.

Formaldehyde is suspected of causing cancer in humans, and is also a strong irritant to eyes, skin and respiratory tract.
TIPS & ALTERNATIVES:
Natural mold and mildew cleaners can be purchased, but if you want to make your own, just mix borax and water, or vinegar and water, in a spray bottle. Spray it on and wipe or scrub the mold and mildew away. Borax also inhibits mold growth, so washing walls and surfaces that tend to accumulate mold with a borax solution and leaving it on may keep mold from growing.

Also try to prevent mold from growing in the first place by keeping areas dry and light, since mold likes darkness and dampness.

A solution of 2 tbsp. tea tree oil in 2 cups of water is also effective on mold and mildew. Spray on, let sit for a half hour or so, and wipe clean. This formula also kills bacteria.
